Therapeutic Style

“I empower clients to develop the skills and confidence they need to make life enhancing changes”
Dorothy Anderson-Perales, LICSW

My style is rooted in building strong and collaborative therapeutic relationships with psychodynamic talk therapy at its core. I integrate mindfulness and body awareness as tools to quiet the mind and connect with inner wisdom and self.

Specialties

“I specialize in working with individuals who suffer from negative body image and disordered eating. I believe it is possible to make tangible steps to stabilize one’s relationship with food, learn to live well in the body you have and improve quality of life”

Credentials

"In over 15 years of clinical experience, I have appreciated the uniqeness of each individual and have come to see how spirituality can have a role in theraphy processes"
Dorothy Anderson-Perales, LICSW

I completed a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master’s of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Toronto, Canada. I developed my interest in integrating creativity and the arts into clinical practice by earning an Expressive Therapies Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) at Lesley University, Cambridge.

Expressive Therapies

“Expressive Therapy can give individuals an opportunity to harness the power of their own creativity and express beyond what can be said in words”
Dorothy Anderson-Perales, LICSW

I have creative materials available in therapy sessions and invite clients to work with photographs, make collages or use creative writing as a part of therapy exploration. Making expressive art can facilitate one’s ability to access, express and contain emotional material. No artistic experience is needed and the focus is on the experience rather than the product. My style is rooted in dynamic talk therapy and the choice to add expressive arts as a tool in therapy is up to each individual client.

Photos on my Web site are examples of materials I have available to use in expressive therapy.
